Design Philosophy
Finnish culture finds strength in calm and beauty in simplicity, where the air, the silence, and the light of nature shape daily life. This, in turn, shapes Hetkinen’s philosophy that design should feel natural, honest, and enduring, resulting in aromatic objects that respect time and material. In Japanese culture, this mindset is referred to as mottainai, a deep respect for the life found within all things.
“For us, scent is not decoration. It is [an] atmosphere. It is memories. It is a reminder that nature still lives around us and within us. Every composition starts in the forest: pine resin, birch leaf, juniper berry. From these notes, we design…objects that bring the atmosphere of the forest into daily life.”
