Skagerak by Fritz Hansen: Outdoor Cleaning Guide

Skagerak by Fritz Hansen outdoor furniture is made to last for generations. While Skagerak intentionally sources wood that requires little care or maintenance, when left outside, the surface will patinate and eventually turn into a beautiful silvery grey. Make sure your investment lasts for years to come by following these care instructions once per year.

What You Need

Caring for your Skagerak by Fritz Hansen outdoor furniture is a minimal process––here is what you need:

• Water (preferably a hose)
• A bucket
• Skagerak by Fritz Hansen Outdoor Care Kit 

Step 1

Place the furniture on grass to avoid staining deck tiles or wood. If not possible, make sure to rinse the surface thoroughly to help avoid stains.

Step 2

In a bucket, mix water with the Auro Garden Wood Cleaner. The recommended ratio is about 2 tablespoons of cleaner for every 1.5 gallons of water.

Step 3

Use the hose, or an extra bucket, to rinse the furniture with clean water.

Step 4

Use the natural bristle brush and soapy water to scrub the surface, making sure to follow the direction of the wood grain. Scrub repeatedly with moderate pressure to remove debris. Make sure not to scrub too hard!

FYI: The natural brush in the care kit is made by ‘Blindes Arbejde’, a sheltered workshop for blind or partially sighted people.

Step 5

Rinse with clean water to remove all soapy residue.

Repeat at least once a year.
