Get To Know Ferm Living’s Spring/Summer 2025 Collection

Come along as we share the story behind the latest Ferm Living designs, which continue to explore the essence of Scandinavian design that has made Ferm Living such a well-loved brand.

The designs within the Spring/Summer 2025 collection subtly reference the island lifestyle lived along the Mediterranean, an area known for its rugged coastlines, shifting light, and tactile surfaces. A material palette of wood, glass, stone, and patinated finishes, along with a sculptural approach to furniture and objects, helps to ground the designs and dissolve boundaries between built spaces and the natural world. This dialogue between architecture and environment results in unique pieces that help you craft a space that inspires, grounds, and enhances modern living.

At the heart of this Spring/Summer 2025 collection is a very special collaboration with the Utzon Center: the Ferm Living x Utzon - Can Lis collection. The exclusive collaboration pays homage to Jørn Utzon, a Danish architect whose work is characterized by an integration of structure, context, and cultural heritage. Utzon’s central philosophy was that architecture should emerge from its environment, keeping in mind local materials, craftsmanship, and specific characteristics of the site itself. His philosophy can be seen in grounding and poetic buildings like the Sydney Opera House, the Bagsværd Church in Denmark, and Can Lis, his own personal sanctuary on the southern coastline of Mallorca.

The Ferm Living x Utzon - Can Lis collaboration, named after and inspired by Utzon’s private family home, crafts a story of meditation, tactility, and quiet sophistication.

Can Lis is a linear sequence of pavilions along the coastline, with each pavilion serving a distinct function while offering an optimal view of the sea. The series of pavilions includes a central living space, a kitchen and dining pavilion, and individual bedroom pavilions, all connected via open courtyards and walkways, resulting in a flow between interior and exterior spaces.

“Can Lis is not merely an assemblage of bricks and mortar; it is a tapestry of memory and ritual,” remarks Ferm Living in Meditations on Can Lis.” Fragments come together to reveal a story of meals shared beneath an open sky, the soft tread of bare feet across cool stones, and the warm glow of sunsets painting golden mosaics on its walls.”

Unlike the Sydney Opera House, which celebrated bold mid-century engineering and innovation, Can Lis has a more meditative expression with both Mallorcan and Scandinavian design influences.

Much like Can Lis balances Danish rationality with the elemental textures of traditional Mallorcan craft, the Ferm Living x Utzon - Can Lis collection interweaves material expressiveness with Scandinavian minimalism, reflecting a shared vision to transform architectural principles into contemporary design.

“Can Lis serves as an enduring testament to how our homes can simultaneously anchor and release us, creating spaces that hold, challenge, and comfort in equal measure.”
Phillipp Materna, Head of Design, Ferm Living

With all of this in mind, let’s walk through each piece in the collection.

Vist Dining Chair

Can Lis is a testament to a life well lived, inviting us to slow down, stay in the present, and appreciate the beauty of simplicity. It’s a reminder that true design is not an imposition, but rather an ongoing dialogue that enriches the way we inhabit our spaces.

Inspired by millwork seen throughout the Can Lis, the Vist Dining Chair embodies a light yet sturdy expression where planks of FSC-certified Douglas fir and joinery intersect to create a solid, unadorned seat.

Aukko Dining Table

The Aukko Dining Table features interlocking wood forms that create an illusion of solidity. The gaps within the table echo the gaps found in the walls of Can Lis, creating a framework of architecture from which to view the table’s surroundings.

We love its monolithic expression crafted from FSC-certified Douglas fir, a wood similar to the Madera Norte pine wood used throughout Can Lis.

The Phase Series

When you enter Can Lis, you walk into an indoor-outdoor foyer that directly faces the ocean. This humble transitional area separates the kitchen and main courtyard to the right from the living quarters to the left. One of its most striking features is a large mosaic of black-and-white ceramic tiles depicting a crescent moon, alongside shapes that evoke different moon phases.

This motif, repeated throughout Can Lis, is one of few bold elements in an otherwise materialistically minimal palette, adding a sense of whimsy that inspired each piece in the Phase series. With its whimsical geometric forms, the Phase Mobile offers a playful reimagining of this motif while the Phase Building Blocks utilize the same shapes, with two contrasting finishes of wood for a more engaging play experience.

The Vuelo Series

The Vuelo Series, named after the Spanish word for flight, is centered around a sketch of a bird drawn by Jørn Utzon himself.

The original sketch is translated into a simplified, flowing pattern similar to the spatial fluidity and openness of Can Lis.

The series, which includes a ceramic mug and cup, a cushion, and a tea towel, offers a tactile connection to the spirit of the house.

The Erena Series

The Erena tableware series was inspired by an old photograph of Utzon at Can Lis, surrounded by family and friends enjoying a casual meal. In this photo, you see how the essence of Can Lis is not only in its architecture, but in its everyday rituals.

Seeking to capture the warmth of this moment, the Erena series offers functional ceramic tableware that sets the table for new experiences and shared memories. Its distinctive conical shape is echoed in the Catalan chimneys found throughout the house. The series includes a cloche, plates, bowls, and a serving platter.

Muro Vase

The Muro Vase is inspired by the symmetry and asymmetry found in the stonework walls of Can Lis. Shaped by local Mallorcan labor and materials, the stonework features subtle irregularities in its grout lines and joints.

The Muro Vase explores the hypothetical concept of casting recycled glass directly into the cavities of a building. Formed by a mold created from unhewn brickwork, Muro has a fragile, light, translucent, and colorful state that has the same raw materiality of it origin.

Deya Side Table & Coffee Table

One of the most distinctive design details of Can Lis is Utzon’s use of bullnose-edge tiles, which have rounded edges that soften transitions, creating a seamless and tactile connection between surfaces. The outdoor-friendly Deya Side Table and Deya Coffee Table embody the monolithic forms found in Can Lis.

Crafted with fiber concrete, the segmented tabletop features a striking geometric design softened by its smoothly rounded edges. It’s finished with a deep green glaze that emphasizes the textured, organic surface.

Luver Portable Lamp

“To move through the rooms of Can Lis is to experience an interplay between the indoors and the outdoors. The building’s design is passively integrated into its natural surroundings while actively framing the landscape from within. Each threshold is carefully considered, and the transitions between shelter and openness, intimacy and vastness, become central to experiencing the space.”

With this in mind, the portable Luver acts as your accompaniment from one space to another, with a silhouette subtly referencing the louvered windows and doors found throughout Can Lis. The angled slats, which allow for controlled airflow and light filtration, make a beautiful shade for this unique portable lamp.

Lancet Mirror

Utzon took a unique approach to windows at Can Lis, mounting the wooden window frames on the exterior of the building, offering an uninterrupted line of sight from inside to outside. Each window is surrounded by recessed, bay-like spaces that naturally guide your gaze outward.

The same framing approach is seen in the Lancet Mirror, crafted from travertine and glass. Lancet can function as both a free-standing and hanging mirror.

Newel Modular Candle Holders

The Newel Modular Candle Holders are inspired by the versatility of bricks, which have long been used by architects in a variety of scales and concepts.

The Newel Modular Candle Holder Set features six travertine “brick” blocks that can be arranged into a variety of shapes and forms.

Its modular nature invites the user to create––and recreate––unique configurations that can be further built upon with additional sets.

Opty Boat

Life at Can Lis centered around the ocean. Utzon has a deep connection to the water, and was often found swimming in nearby coves or exploring the Mallorcan coastline by boat.

The Opty Boats were inspired by sketches found in the Utzon Center’s archives. These minimal toy boats reflect Utzon’s love for the sea as well as his belief in the importance of craftsmanship, material honesty, and a deep respect for context.

Additional Selections from the Spring/Summer 2025 Collection

Now that we’ve walked through the Can Lis collection pieces, we’ll walk through even more new additions from Ferm Living worth celebrating.

Made from galvanized steel with a powder-coated weatherproof finish, the Uma Balcony Box is a thoughtful design for adding greenery to balconies and urban spaces. We love how the integrated hanging system is discreet, letting the plants take center stage.

Named after the concept of a voyage, the Voya Folding Chair is a lightweight design that makes it easy to move from one place to another. Its aluminum frame is durable yet ideal for outdoor use, while the premium fabric seat, back, and armrests ensure optimal comfort.

With the Stone Plant Box with Shelf, the iconic Plant Box is reimagined! Crafted from an exquisite creamy French marble, the Stone Plant Box is finished with brass feet that add to the elevated design. Just like the original plant box, the Stone Plant Box with Shelf can be used for far more than plants.

Inspired by the meditative process of stacking stones, the Pebble Box offers hidden storage in plain sight, offering both function and aesthetics.

The smoothly pivoting top of the Olles Storage Table reveals a generous storage space, perfect for stowing away living room essentials like blankets and board games. We love its soft rounded silhouette completed by its thick solid oak legs.

The Oar Coffee Table Series is a celebration of natural curves and natural wood. We love the distinctive cut-out leg details, and organically shaped top. The two sizes can be styled together or on their own for a functional yet beautiful accent table.

The rugged charm of Nordic landscapes is translated into the Norte Outdoor Rug, which features an abstract form and multiple textures.

Cast from recycled aluminum with a textured sand-like finish, the three Niche Pieces are sculptural objects perfect for storing and/or displaying small decorative accents.

Made from Corten steel, the Lapel Planters are constructed from interlocking flat panels that result in a durable, weather-resistant planter box with a raised center that provides visual harmony.

The Lager Series draws inspiration from industrial, Brutalist style, with a name taken from the Danish word for warehouse. Each piece of furniture in the Lager Family is crafted from powder-coated iron or finely brushed aluminum sheets.

The sweet little Frill Portable Lamp is the perfect choice for a child’s room or any other playful space. It features a sturdy weighted cylindrical base balanced by a molded shade adorned with delicate fluted detailing.

The Dedali Series, which includes a bowl, vases, and a candleholder, draws inspiration from labyrinthine patterns. Each piece is crafted from 3D-printed ceramic, balancing artistry with functionality.

The Boya Glasses are inspired by buoys and traditional Mediterranean glassware, coming in two sizes in Blush, Mauve, or Yellow.
