Meet &Tradition: Danish Design Classics & New Icons
We are thrilled to introduce the latest addition to the Batten Home collection: &Tradition.
Founded in 2010 in Copenhagen, this international design brand is built on a Danish legacy of craftsmanship and design. &Tradition seamlessly bridges past and present. From Verner Panton’s iconic 1960s-era Flowerpot lamp design to Space Copenhagen’s modern Fly series, the brand’s portfolio is filled with timeless designs.
”We tell stories with originality. Whether our starting point is new or re-issued, we are passionate about designing the classics of tomorrow. We believe in empowering our employees and network of creatives, designers and partners to take an active part in our journey as a brand. With the planet and the people at the core, we strive to always act conscientiously."
Now, let’s walk through the &Tradition collection at Batten Home.
Lighting
Verner Panton is an iconic designer known worldwide for avant-garde work and experimentation with materials, shapes, and color. The Flowerpot VP9 Portable Lamp is an iteration of his original Flowerpot Table Lamp design, deliberately lightweight and cordless for easy mobility wherever light is needed. It comes in a variety of colors ranging from neutrals to vibrant hues.
The Pivot ATD7 Portable Lamp is a beautiful light featuring a geometric shade positioned at a 45-degree angle to the base, resulting in a soft diffusion of light that emits a warm glow reminiscent of a candle. We love how easy it is to move from one space to the next, just like a candle holder was used before the invention of electricity.
With its rounded base and pyramid-shaped top, the Caret MF1 Portable Lamp reimagines the traditional bankers lamp design. Made entirely from lacquered steel, this modern reinterpretation of the classic lamp design invites a soft ambiance to every shelf, counter, and side table.
Named after the traditional Japanese pottery technique, the Raku SH8 Portable Lamp has a considerable presence despite its compact size. Raku features a hand-sculpted ceramic base with a crackle glaze that makes each piece slightly different from the next. We love the use of natural materials to create a compact and warm light source.
Seating
Designed by Edward van Vliet, the Develius Modular Lounge Series is a buildable and versatile series that prioritizes comfort without sacrificing a definitive form and aesthetic. With the Develius components, you can build a personalized lounge seating system, anywhere from a simple pouf and 2-seater sofa to a 6-seater sofa, a corner sofa, and a chaise lounge.
Stockholm-based designer Louise Liljencrantz’s Margas Lounge Chair and Two-Seater Sofa is named after the designer’s beloved grandmother, who she credits as the most important role model and source of inspiration. These sculptural lounge pieces add warmth and ease to any interior.
With the Inland Sofa, designers Torbjørn Anderssen and Espen Voll wanted to create a supremely comfortable seating experience within a clearly defined architectural framework. This low-form, deep sofa features high arms and a warm black steel-footed base that gives the illusion of floating.
The Daystak RD1 Side Chair's name is a nod to the stack-ability of this side chair by Robin Day, which is both utilitarian and beautiful. Despite its complex construction, its visual form is simple and minimalist in a mid-century silhouette.
Named after Copenhagen’s Betty Nansen Theatre, the Betty Series is a chair design that comes in a variety of color combinations and materials, as well as in bench form. Betty is a simple yet versatile companion for kitchen, living, and dining spaces.
Space Copenhagen’s Fly Series, which consists of two sofas, an armchair, two tables, and a pouf, pushes the idea of lounging to its absolute fullest. We love the use of cozy fabrics and warm wood.
Tables
With the Tung JA3 Side Table, contemporary British designer John Astbury was on a mission to create a side table with a monolithic feel. We love this compact piece that is reminiscent of ancient pillars, with a modern twist thanks to its glossy finish in Steel Blue and Burgundy Red.
Reminiscent of a classic wooden toy, the Shuffle MH1 Side Table is a playful design by Mia Hamborg inspired by the Brio Stacking Clown toy of her childhood. With Shuffle, the user can determine the shape, color, and height of the table by arranging and rearranging each element.
The Ita Table Series is characterized by two single planks that rest atop wide wooden legs. This minimalist design transcends the space between Scandinavian and Japanese design philosophies. The table, which comes in dining table sizes and lounge tables for the living room, comes in oak or a dark stained oak finish, highlighting the beauty and tactility of wood.
The In Between series by Sami Kallio, is characterized by gentle curves and the use of FSC®-certified wood. The series includes multiple dining tables, coffee tables, cafe tables, bar tables, and more.
Designed by Luca Nichetto, the Sett Table Series showcases the innate beauty of marble and glass. Inspired by a jewelry-making method where gems are inlaid and set precisely into a frame, these tables have a sharp and sophisticated expression. We love how the design fuses Scandinavian functionalism with a dash of Italian design influences.
Designed by Hvidt & Mølgaard in 1953, the smooth and shapely Pinwheel Table is an adaptable and multipurpose piece. Slot several together to form one elegant and unique piece. Pinwheel comes in oak or walnut with brass or stainless steel legs.
Reminiscent of a sculpture, the Lato Table features a slim, oval or round tabletop balanced out by an oval-shaped base. The timeless design from Lucas Nichetto has a pure, streamlined form. We especially love the options with the marble base, which comes in Emperador Marble, Crema Diva Marble, or Verde Alpe Marble.
Accessories
The Momento Series, which includes a candleholder, vases, a throw blanket, and a jug, is unified by designs that pay homage to classic forms inspired by designer Jaime Hayon’s paintings. The candleholder is slip-clast and glazed precisely by Portuguese artisans, with colors inspired by Hayon’s art: Azure, Poppy Red, Ivory, and Red Brown. The Momento Vases, one in a soft cream and another in a bold Emerald green, are versatile and perfectly complement the colors found in fresh florals. The Momento Jug comes in both Polished Stainless Steel and Ivory, providing a no-spill vessel with perfect pouring form.
Designed by Space Copenhagen, the Collect Series offers a range of beautifully crafted soft furnishings and home objects, including glassware, trays, bowls, cushions, and more. We especially love the Collect Plate, which is crafted from a beige travertine rock. It’s perfect as a catch-all on an entryway table or kitchen island.
Storage
In designing the Alima NDS1 Trolley, Note Design Studio was on a mission to organize the ‘creative chaos' that comes with working from home. The result is a sleek trolley featuring a distinctive V-shaped design that is perfect for storing and displaying a stack of books. Showcase functional and beautiful objects in a myriad of ways, and easily move the trolley wherever you need it!
Space Copenhagen’s Trace Cabinet blends a contemporary silhouette with a classic expression. These large storage cabinets make the perfect elegant frame for displaying cherished design objects, from tableware to vases. The name is inspired by all of the small, sentimental pieces we all collect over time––and the traces they leave behind.
We love a simple shelf with pure craftsmanship, and the Guild Shelf is no exception. Designed in 1954 for Peter Hvidt’s family home, this timeless shelf subtly mirrors the curving paths found in the property’s garden, resulting in a pared-back shelf design with an undulating form and uncompromised level of detail.
Mirrors
First designed for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen by Space Copenhagen, the Amore Mirror Series comes in a rectangular full-length or circular version. Amore is produced to the highest standard in Italy––hence the Italian name––with a bronzed brass frame finishing the piece perfectly. Both models are produced to the highest standard in Italy, with a bronzed brass frame and a silver-colored mirror.
Sebastian Herkner designed the Sillon Mirror Series by drawing inspiration from the French Art Deco movement. Named after sillon, the French word for groove this series is distinct due to its corrugated frame. Hang them together at varying heights, or alone, for a functional and beautiful addition to a hallway, bathroom, or bedroom.
Rugs
Hand-woven in India with a blend of New Zealand wool, the Moor Rug Series has an opulent velvet-like expression, grounding a room and adding coziness and comfort. We especially love the options with cotton fringing.
Made from 100% New Zealand wool, the Framed Rug Series is a great way to add accents of color without overpowering a space. The design from All the Way to Paris is crafted using two traditional rug making techniques, resulting in the contrast of a vibrant tufted border with a calm kilim center.
Crafted from bamboo silk woven into high-quality wool, the Cruise Rug Series has a soft graphic identity that works beautifully in a variety of spaces. It comes in three sizes, each in three travel-inspired color tones: Aden Desert Beige, Bombay Golden Brown, and Colombo Grey Blue.
Outdoor
The Thorvald Outdoor series is an expansive design crafted carefully to sit in harmony with the natural world. From dining tables to seating, craft the perfect space for al fresco meals and evenings outdoors. Each piece comes in one of three signature colorways: warm black, bronze green, or ivory.
