Whether you’re seeking a practical task light or a statement piece to enhance your décor, FLOS table lamps provide an elegant solution for contemporary spaces.
The Versatility of Modern Table Lamps
Modern table lamps are a classic choice in interior design, adding a layer of light that is both functional and decorative. Their adaptability makes them ideal for various applications, from illuminating a minimalist desk to enhancing a collection of unique objects on a console. The design of a table lamp determines its function, whether it provides direct, focused light or a more diffused, ambient glow. Task lights, for example, often feature simple bar or angled designs that allow the user to adjust the direction of the light. These lamps are ideal for reading, writing, or other activities requiring focused illumination. On the other hand, table lamps with cylindrical shades or globe forms cast a more general light, contributing to the overall brightness of a room while still being functional for various tasks.
FLOS table lamps are known for their innovative use of materials, including metal, polycarbonate, and marble. This wide range of options ensures that there is a FLOS table lamp to suit every taste and interior style.
Table lamps are incredibly versatile and can be used in almost any room of the home or office. They are often placed on side tables, consoles, bedside tables, and dining surfaces, providing both direct and diffused lighting where needed. In bedrooms, a FLOS table lamp can serve as a modern bedside lamp, offering a soft, ambient light for reading or relaxing. In living rooms, these lamps can be used to create a cozy atmosphere or highlight a particular area of the room.
The portability of table lamps makes them especially useful in spaces where flexibility is important. Unlike ceiling or wall-mounted lights, table lamps can be easily moved and repositioned as needed, allowing you to experiment with different lighting––and furniture––arrangements to create the perfect ambiance for any occasion. This makes them a popular choice not only in homes but also in offices, lobbies, and dining areas, where they can be used to enhance both the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the space.

Notable FLOS Table Lamps
The Bellhop Portable LED Table Lamp is a completely wireless lamp that recharges via a micro USB-C cable. Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby introduced this modern table lamp design in 2018 for the London Design Museum. With a charge that holds for up to 24 hours, you can place this portable lamp indoors or outdoors in areas where a plug is out of reach. The Bellhop Portable LED Table Lamp comes in white, grey, grey/blue, yellow, dark brown, and burnt orange.
The Tab Table Lamp is another design from Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby. Originally introduced in 2011, this sleek table lamp is loaded with thoughtful design features. The head is easily adjustable based on the lighting you need while working, emitting non-dimmable, direct light. It comes in black, matte blue, or dark green.
The Gatto Table Lamp was first introduced in 1960 by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. This delicate sculptural lamp is framed with white powder-coated steel, with a shade that’s sprayed on to provide soft, diffused light.
When you look at the transparent version of the Miss K Table Lamp, it feels like you’re looking at an x-ray of a lamp thanks to its transparent design. The bulb is included, offering a diffused light glow that is fully dimmable.
The IC Lamp series embraces the beauty of the sphere in multiple variations: the IC T2 Table Lamp, the IC T1 High Table Lamp (shown above), and the IC T1 Low Table Lamp. There’s a pretty cool story behind the design of these modern table lamps: designer Michael Anastassiades was heavily inspired by a video clip of a contact juggler. He loved seeing how the juggler was able to spin and move a set of spheres around his body. His intention with the IC Lamps was to capture a moment in which the spheres seemed to be frozen in place. Each lamp emits a warm and beautiful diffused light, with a dimmer on the power cord. There are several body options: brass, chrome, red/burgundy, or black.
Can you believe that the Snoopy Table Lamp originally debuted in 1967? FLOS reintroduced the Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni design in 2003 with updated technology that stills honors the original design, which featured an enamelled metal reflector and a white Carrara marble base. The 54-year-old design manages to be both playful and sophisticated. The reflector comes in black or green.
English designer Sebatian Wong decided to explore the combination of modern manufacturing technology with elegance, craftsmanship, and dynamic fluid aesthetics. The result is his Spun Table Lamp, introduced in 2003, but just as modern in 2021 and perfect for the minimal interior. The main body has a spun metal frame and diffuser, with support arms and a lamp-holder support made with die-cast aluminum. With two sizes and three color options (shiny white, shiny black, and mud), the Spun Table Lamp is the perfect lighting solution for a living room side table, a nightstand in a bedroom, or an entryway.
The Taccia Table Lamp is another Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni signature design. Originally introduced in 1962, Castiglioni described this piece as "the Mercedes of Lamps, a sign of success,” and we have to agree.
This unique lamp features a shallow aluminum dome enameled with special heat-proof paint. The dome is positioned on top of a deep glass bowl which becomes a reflecting screen for the lamp. A bulb, hidden inside the metal base, emits the light, while the glass bowl can be moved to adjust the light’s direction to suit the particular lighting needs of each space. The base comes in bronze, black, or silver and you can choose between a plastic or hand-blown glass diffuser.
Lastly, we have the Glo Ball Table Lamp from celebrated British designer Jasper Morrison. Morrison’s intention was to invoke the radiant calm of a full moon, which we think he achieved through this calming and functional table lamp design. We also have the Glo Ball Basic Table Lamp, which strips the design down to the essential sphere for a pure and minimal look.
